The 6 Day Protein Bake Challenge: Day Two

Chocolate. One of my favourite things. Baking with the chocolate whey for Day 2 of the Smart Protein 6-day Protein Bake challenge was probably the most comfortable out of the three Smart Protein whey protein flavours (Strawberry, Vanilla and Chocolate).

Energy balls are one of my favourite snacks, especially those I make. Usually, I make them with oats but this time I decided to make something different. I present you with chocolate covered protein bon bons. They are gooey yet sweet, curb the chocolate craving but are also so satisfying. Once you pop, you just won’t stop.

Chocolate-Covered Protein Bon Bons

For the balls: (Makes around 8 balls)

1 cup pitted dates
1/2 cup brazil nuts
1/2 almonds
1/4 cup hazel nuts

For the Chocolate Coating

1 scoop Smart Protein Chocolate Whey
1/2 pack 90% dark chocolate (you can use anything over 80% if you find 90% too bitter)
1 tsp coconut oil

For the balls

1. Blend all the nuts and dates until its come together to form a slightly sticky dough.

2. Roll out balls to the size you like and place all on a tray.

For the Chocolate Coating:

1. Using a bain mairie (double boiler), put the coconut oil into the bowl then put in the dark chocolate. Once it has melted, stir together.

2. Stir in the whey protein.

3. Roll each of the balls into the melted chocolate and set aside.

You can use all sorts of toppings like shredded coconut, orange zest, lemon zest or rosemary. I rolled some of the balls in cocoa powder for extra chocolatey-ness.

4. Lick the bowl of remaining melted chocolate!

For that retro feel, drink up with a glass of milk. Make a milk moustache whilst you’re at it.

Quick tip: Don’t put the balls in the fridge to let the melted chocolate dry as it this will cause the chocolate to lose its glossiness. Instead, put them in a dry, cool area and let them dry naturally

Store in a box in a dry, cool location.
